      KNOLL

Mary Ann Knoll, 74, of Oklahoma City, OK, left this earth to be with her Heavenly Father July 24, 2006. Also known as Mary Anna, she was born May 29, 1932 to Peter J. Knoll and Rosa (Gabel) Knoll in St. Peter, KS. She leaves behind many friends and loved ones who shared her joy for life, love and adventure. She grew up in St. Peter and Morland, KS, where she graduated from Morland High School, class of '51, and also attended Fort Hays State College. As a youth she worked on farms and after graduating MHS worked for attorneys in Hill City, KS and later Wichita. She moved briefly to California before settling in Oklahoma City in the mid-1960s. There she worked as a legal secretary for Legal Aid and the Oklahoma County Public Defender's Office, from which she retired after 23 years. Family was important to her. She visited Kansas and Texas whenever possible. In retirement, she engaged in many activities, seeking adventure, companionship, friendly conversation, and new experiences. She attended St. James Catholic Church and was active at the Woodson Park Senior Center, Pat's Painting Partners, the OK Retired Citizens' Travel Club, the HOPE cancer support group, and the Red Hat Society. In her own words (2005): "I spend my time pursuing my creative interests and traveling. I try to do everything I can. I love painting and take lessons which I just love. I enjoy quilting needle point and sewing. I use to actually sew my own clothes for both me and my son. I enjoy doing work around the house and consider myself a real good 'Handy Lady', enjoying plumbing and doing my own guttering. I also love to travel and have visited many far away countries. I really enjoy reading and do it a lot!" A visual reminder of her creativity lives in her artwork, which has appeared in shows and has won awards. Staying physically active led her to win gold medals at the Senior Olympics. Her ability to shop for bargains impressed many. She was preceded in death by her Parents; two sisters, Sophie and Irene of Hill City; and four brothers, Nick, John P. "Brandy" of Hill City, Antone and Alfred of California. She is survived by her son, Steve, of Austin, TX; three sisters, Rose of Hill City, Mildred Bottomly of Hays, KS, and Dorothy "Peggy" Johnson of Keller, TX; one brother, William, of Denver, CO; as well as numerous extended family and friends. She was a loving mother, daughter, and sister. We will all miss her bright smile, funny stories, and loving words of encouragement. Thanks to all family, friends, and loved ones who added joy to her life, and thanks to the caregivers at Grace Living Centers of Bethany and Brookwood and to the medical doctors and staff who so kindly cared for her over the months and years. Rev. Deacon Marti Gulikers will preside over a Liturgy Service to be held 11am Monday, July 31, 2006, at St. James Catholic Church, Oklahoma City, OK. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am Thursday, August 3, 2006, in Hill City, KS, with Fr. Don McCarthy presiding. Interment is at St. Peter Community Cemetery. Memorials may be made to any charity, especially those supporting cancer survivors or research, like HOPE in Oklahoma, Camp Mak-A-Dream, and the American Cancer Society. Flowers are appropriate especially when planted so as to brighten one's day.
