Capacitance |
The
ability
to store electrical energy or power between 2 metal plates
that
are very close together but do not touch each other. Large
amounts of
opposite electric charges are held on opposing plates because the
charges are
attracted to each other across the insulated space between the
plates.
Since the plates are not connected to each other internally, direct
current cannot flow through capacitance.
For alternating current like audio and radio frequency signals, the
charges
flow into and out of the plates alternately charging them negative and
positive in a way that acts as though the signal flows through the
capacitance. |
