William Gunne was christened 25 December 1566 in Tadmarton, the son of Robert Gunne and Margaret Petifer. William's father Robert died in 1574, when Willliam was only eight years old. His mother Margaret married again a year later to William Dumbleton of Tadmarton.


William married Joan Potter 14 January 1594 in Tadmarton. Joan was christened 22 October 1570 in Tadmarton, the daughter of Roberte Potter and Marian Joyner.

William was also mentioned in the will of his half-sister Elen Dumbleton in 1609: "I gyve to the children of my brother William Gonne that xls which my said brother doth owe me. Item I gyve to Ellen Petipher five poundes, which said monie I will shall be employed to her use by my mother Margarett Dombleton and my brother Wylliam Gonne until the said Elen shall accomplish the age of xviij yeres…And I ordeyne my brother Wylliam Gonne and ffrannces Thomlynes overseers of the same, to whom I gyve vjd apeece. In the presence of Harry Wylkinson and Wylliam Gonne.”

William Gunne signed the parish register as a churchwarden from the very beginning of the register in 1548. He is likely Robert's father. William continued to be a churchwarden for many years in the late 1500s until 1597.
