In the name of God Amen I John Pickton of Wildescott being sick of body but in sound and perfect memory (praised be God for the same do make this my last will & testament in manner & forme following ffirst of all I resign my soule into the merciful hands of almighty God my Creator assuredly hoping through the merits of my blessed to obtaine remission of al my sins, and my bod I commit to ye earth a home it was taken to be decently buryed at the discretion of my executors herein after nam’d and as to the worldly goods and estate God has bless me with I dispose thereof as follows:
Imprimis I give and bequeath unto John son of my eldest sonne Thomas Picton the sum of ten pounds to be layd out for his good
Item I give five pounds more to be equally distributed amongst his other three children
Item I give and bequeath unto John son of William ffrodgley the summe of ten pounds
Item I give and bequeath unto William sonn of William ffrodgley the summe of five pounds
Item I give and bequeath to daughter of William ffrodgley the best bed over the house and al the appurtenances thereof
Item I give & bequeath to Peter ye son of William ffrodgley the mare
Item I give & bequeath unto my second son Peter Pickton the summe of twenty pounds
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Green the summe of five pounds
Item I give & bequeath to my youngest sonn William Picton al my household goods except the bed before menten’d my nursery, my corne and cattel except the mare before menconed with al the rest of my household goods
Item I give him what is due to me from Stanley
As to the remaining part of my money and estate not herein before mencon’d and bequeathed after my debts and funeral expenses are discharged I do give and bequeath them to my deare and loving children Thomas and Peter whom I doe make ye executors of this my last will and testament revoking all wills by me heretofore set my hand and seale this thirteenth day of May in ye year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and nine

John and Mary had the following children:

1. Thomas, christened 3 March 1677 in Patshull; married Mary Hattam 25 May 1697 in Sutton Maddock, Shropshire.


2. Mary, married William Frodgley 29 June 1693 in Albrighton.


3. Peter, christened 17 July 1680 in Patshull, Staffordshire; married Sarah Atkins 9 August 1718 in Stafford.The will of Peter Pickton in 1734 provides details about the Pickton family and the Green children after the death of their parents:

"In the name of God I Peter Pickton of Trentham in the County of Stafford gardiner being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory praised be God for the same do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following...Item I give and bequeath unto my dear & loving wife Sarah the whole paid interest increase and product of the sume of three hundred pounds now out at interest for and during the term of her natural life she maintaining my niece Elizabeth Green until she attain the age of twenty years of allowing her my said niece three pounds a year to be paid half yearly until she shall attain the said age of twenty years as a separate maintenance if my wife shall so long live and also allowing her my said niece Elizabeth Green after she shall attain the age of twenty years only forty shillings a year to be paid half yearly during my said wifes life if my said niece lives so long And after my wifes decease I give and bequeath the said three hundred pounds principall money in manner and form following Item I give and bequeath unto my brother Thomas Pickton if he be living at my wifes decease ten pounds otherwise I give and bequeath the said ten pounds to my niece his daughter Ann Cidey or her heirs Item I give & bequeath to my said niece Ann Cidey or her heirs ten pounds more Item I give and bequeath to my sister Mary ffradgleys children the sume of ffifty pouns to be equally divided amongst them or such of them as shall be living at my wifes decease Item I give and bequeath to my nieces Elizabeth and Mary Green one hundred pounds to be equally divided betwixt them Item I give and bequeth to my nephews Thomas Green John Green Richard Green William Green and ffrancis Green the sume of fifty pounds to be equally divided amongst them And it is my mind and will that if any of my nephews or nieces Greens shall happen to dye before his her or their legacys or legacy shall become due such legacy or legacys shall go to the survivors or survivor of him her or them Item I give and bequeath to my brother William Picktons child or children twenty pounds if living at my wifes decease otherwise I give and bequeath the said twenty pounds to my nephews and nieces Greens share and share alike Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Mountford spinster the sume of ten pounds Item I give and bequeath to my dear and loving wife twenty pounds to dispose of and bequeath as she shall think proper. Item I give and bequeath to my sincere and faithfull friend the Reverend John Hargreaves clerk and my good friend Thomas Sibbetts ten pounds a piece Item I give and bequeath to my godson Patrick and goddaughter Stoke twenty shillings a piece Item I give to my good friend Clayton Lea fforty shillings Item I give and bequeath to the poor of Trentham parish fforty shillings Item I give and bequeath as an additional legacy to my brother William Picktons child or children after my said wifes decease the sume of four pounds being the remainder of the three hundred pounds above mentioned Item I give and bequeath to my said dear and loving wife all the rest residue and remainder of all my goods money cattle chattles and personal estate whatsoever she paying and discharging all my debts and funeral expences and paying twenty pounds for the placing and setting out of my nephew William an apprentice to such master as shall be approved of by my executors hereafter named And it is my mind and will that in case my wife sell and disposes of her goods and chattles in her life time that then in such case she shall give to my niece Elizabeth Green five pounds or the value thereof in goods or money And lastly I do hereby I do constitute ordain and appoint my said sincere friend The Reverend John Hargreaves my said dear and wellbeloved wife Sarah Pickton and my said friend Thomas Sibbetts executors of this my last will and testament hereby revokeing all former wills by me made In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal this sixth day of March in the eighth year of the reign of our Soveraign Lord King George the second over Great Britaine and so forth in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty four
