Wales Studies, an analysis is made of four men who were
called Elidyr Ddu. Joan's father is identified as Elidyr, born in
1255, the son of Elidyr.
Elidyr Ddu is the son of Elidyr ap Rhys ap Gronwy ap Einion ap
Llywarch at Rhys ap Gronwy ap Einion ap Llywarch ap Rhiryd ap Mor
ap Ynyr ap Pasgen.

"(7) This Elidyr ap Elidyr was the father of 5
daughters born c. 1285/1295 (Catryn, Joan, Marged, Mallt and
Gwenllian) and 3 sons born c. 1285/1295 (Adda Fawr, Ieuan Goch
and Philip)...He is the most likely of our men called Elidyr Ddu
to have been the man named in the 1302/03 court record mentioned
earlier. He is also the Elidyr ap Elidyr cited by Peniarth
176, 318 as marrying a daughter of Madog Hyddgam". (Wolcott)
Cecily is shown as the daughter of Madog Hyddgam, the son of
Madog, the son of Cadwyn, the son of Madog, the son of Cadwgan of
Nannau (who was born in 1110).
