William and Alice Laverock did have children in the years prior to the Civil War, and are likely Mary's parents. Laverock was a Saxon name for a lark, or a person who sang like a lark.

The Pentrich parish register began in 1621, but no Laverock christenings were recorded in the mid-1600s. William was mentioned in the will of William Boultbie in 1631: “I give to Willm Laverocke & his two children vs”, so he was of an age to have children at that time.

In the name of God Amen the xxixth day of Maye Anno Domini 1599 in the xljth yeare of the raigne of oure Soveraigne Lady Elizabeth by the grace of God Queene of England Ffrance & Ireland Defender of ye Fayth I Thomas Laverock of Pentridge in the Contie of Darby husbandman beinge sick in body but of perfect remembrance God be praysed therefore doe ordayne declare & make this my last will & testament in manner & forme following Ffirst I bequeath my soule into the handes of Allmightie God my maker and to Jesus Chryst my Redeemer & Saviour by whose blud sheedinge I trust to be saved & my body to be buryed in Pentridge churchyard. Item I give to my father John Laverock the some of xls of lawfull Englishe mony over & besides all the right tytle of late dues demanded & mentenances which of right he hath had & shall & may have by covenant & bargaine dureinge his naturall lyfe to give & bestowe upon whom it shall please him. John Leverock was born in about 1540 of Pentrich. John was mentioned in the will of his brother William Laverock of Pentrich in 1583. This will provides structure for William's family and his brothers John and James:

In the name of God Amen I Wyllym Levarocke of Pentridge beinge sycke in bodye but of good & pfecte remembrance thankes be to God do ordeyne & make this my laste will & testament, this xxvjth of Maye Anno Regni Dei grace regina vicesimo quinto in maner & fforme ffolowynge viz ffirste I bequethe my soule unto Almytye God my Creator and my bodye to be buried in the paryshe churche yarde of Pentridge aforesaid or els where. Item I geve & bequethe to the churchwardens of Southewynfylde to see yt be bestowed upon the men dynge of the Cansye betwixt the Churche & the mylle thear iiijs iiijd. I geve & bequeth unto my sone Thomas the dett of viij li which my son Wyllym gave unto my by his last will so that he paye out of the same unto my son in law Charles Hunter & my daughter his wyfe xiiijs iiiijd when he shall require the same at his one coste in full.
