John Gossage was born in about 1580 of Myddle, Shropshire, the son
of Richard and Jane Gossage. John was mentioned in the will of his
grandfather John Gossage, as "the yongest child of my sonn
Richard". John married Jane. John was a husbandman.
At some time after 1609, John
and his family moved to Shawbury, Shropshire, a parish about five miles
from Myddle. Robert Gossage was also found in the
parish of Shawbury at that time. Robert was a witness to the
will of William Wether of Shawbury in 1612. He was also
mentioned in the will of John Dicher, the vicar of Shawbury in
1620: “I give and bequeath unto Robert Gossage one sheepe,
and to his sonne John my godsonne one sheepe and to his sonne
Robert one sheepe, and his sonne Richard a sheepe.” Robert's
son Richard was christened in Shawbury in 1619.
John died and was buried 25 March 1620 in Shawbury.

John and Jane had the following children:

born in about 1607; married 1) John Eykin 4 February 1627 in

Richard Gossage was christened 2 February 1544 in Myddle, the son
of John and Johanne Gossage. He married Johanna Davy 20 January
1577 in Myddle. The Gossage family were tenants of the manor of
the Earl of Derby, then later (about 1600) the Earl of
Bridgewater.

Morgan ap Probart (or Morgan ap Robert) was the bailiff of the
manor of Myddle: "Mr. Morgan ap Probart, as the Welch name
suggests had originated from Wales just across the border from
Myddle, likely as a young man. He owned Castle Farm.
He had no children to carry on his name so he adopted a young
kinswoman named Alice and brought her up as his own." (Gittins
Family https://gittens.info/archives) Morgan was one of the
witnesses for the will of John Gossage, Richard's father, in 1587.
Johanna may have worked as one of many servants at Castle Farm,
bringing her in contact with Richard.
Richard and Johanna had the following children:

John Gossage was born in about 1510 of Myddle, the son of
Roger Gossage. He married Johanne. John was shown as an "agricola"
or farmer.
John was asked to witness wills and appraise inventories for his
neighbors in Myddle. In 1539 he was a witness for Elizabeth
Carlow. In 1563 John was an appraiser for the inventory of William
Banastre. Also in 1563 he was a witness to the will of William
Brayne, and also an appraiser for his inventory. Again in 1563 he
was an appraiser for the inventory of William Hyggyns. In 1570
John was a witness for the will of Ann Mathew. In 1578 he was an
appraiser for the inventory of Roger Hawarde.
Johanna died and was buried 8 June 1576 in Myddle.

Middle in the countie of Salop yoman being in good and pfect
mind and memorye knowing yt deathe is a thinge most certen to
com to evrye living creature but when or how is refused from
mans knowleddge to Goddes onlie wysdome doe therefore make and
ordeyne this my last wyll and testament in manner and following
that is to saide first & principallie I geve and bequeth my
soule to almightie God my maker and to Jesus Christ his onlie
sonne who by the most merciful merites of his most glorious
& bitter passion hathe most mercifullie & freelie
redeemed me from damnation my bodie to be buryed in the
churcheyarde of Myddle aforesaid. Item I geve & bequeathe to
Elizabeth the daughter of my sonne Thomas my pte of a
calfe heifer that is between me & my sonne Thomas.

Hussey of Newton my soninlaw one sheepe. Item to Johan
Ledle another daughter of the said John Hussey one sheepe.

Thomas's son John may be the John Gossage mentioned in Richard
Gough's History of Myddle as a "drunken debauched
person" and a counterfeiter.

ROGER GOSSAGE
Roger Gossage was born in about 1485 of Myddle. He was listed in
the Lay Subsidy of 1524 in Myddle: “Roger Gossage was named in
the subsidy of 1524, and was succeeded by his son and then by
his grandson, a man of yeoman standing." The history of
Myddle says that "Roger Gossage’s tenement lay on the opposite
side of the street to the church, on the site of the present
