Background Information: While this area was never actually a part of the colony of New Netherland, many of the residents of Kingston, which was part of New Netherland, represented a significant portion of the first European settlers in the Minisink. The first settlement is believed to have been in about 1690 and the first official land patent was granted in 1697 to Jacob Codebec and six others.
